DACHSTEIN WELTERBE Deutsch English Dachstein Welterbe

Dachstein Hiking World

The Dachstein Hiking World stretches from the Koppentraun River valley to the Dachstein massif with its peak ranges. It features plenty of enjoyable hiking routes as well as demanding mountain and climbing tours. A network of well groomed nature trails and footpaths covers the area from the valley station at Obertraun to the ice-fields at an altitude of almost 3.000m. Our nature trails are designed to introduce their users to exciting information about the surrounding plateau - in relaxing hiking atmosphere.  Moreover, the view platform "5fingers" and the  WorldNATURALHeritage-view of the two Dachstein glaciers provide an outstanding visitor experience.

Thus our visitors can get an overview of the manifold karst scenery, its fauna and flora, as well as of the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding mountains, lakes and villages. We have lain a particular emphasis on the creation of an almost barrier-free hiking trail network in order to attract families, elderly people and visitors with handicaps to our excursion sites.

Barrier-free

Since 2008, Dachstein World Heritage cableways provide barrier-free access from the base to the top station. Henceforth, disabled, wheelchair users, elderly and families with buggies may enjoy a barrier-free ride into Dachstein nature adventure. The handicapped-accessible car park, ramps and short-distance passages without significant slopes make access to the cable cars a cinch. Moreover, the cable cars have been designed pursuant to the requirement of affording the enjoyment of a splendid outlook also to wheelchair users.

At the mountain various options are available. On the mountain top a lift has been installed leading directly to the Dachstein Hiking World-starting point from where the WorldNATURALHeritage viewpoint is easily accessible. This viewpoint features terrific views of both the Dachstein plateau and the surrounding mountain peaks including High Dachstein and the ice fields.
For those who do not “aim high” the Schönbergalm area provides dining and variety. Here the visitors may experience a close-tonature karst family park which offers a playful approach to particular local features. This almost barrier-free family park is an appropriate alternative to the caves which - as a result of natural conditions - cannot be adapted according to barrier-free requirements.
